We have two, one in the boat and one in the car. They have been a great asset while traveling. We take it in to the hotel so we don't have to deal with accidental spills. On the boat, in heavy seas (12 foot swells) it doesn't spill a drop. It needs to be secured so it doesn't slide around. In the car I use a rolled up towel or small luggage. If it slides to the edge of the platform and tips the wrong way the possibility of a modest spill is pretty high. So long as it stays on a reasonably level surface it will have no problem. It can be stored standing up but must be secured because if it falls on its face it will splash a bit. Picture it this way; Flat on any side (BUT THE TOP WITH THE HANDLE)will be dripless, but at angles it can dribble a bit. It's pretty much dog spill proof.
It would be really wonderful if it came with a lid for storage for those times when you can't secure it very well.

This is my second waterboy - I had to order another because I now have two dogs, and they both love drinking from this! Instead of using just for travel, we use them for their everyday drinking water. They walk right past their water bowls to get to the waterboy, and so does the cat. Since it only lets a little water out at the time, all of the water stays fresh. When it runs out of water, they will pick it up and try to shake more out of it, rather than going to check the other water bowls. And they hold quite alot of water, so we do not have to refill them as often as we would a regular drinking bowl. Highly recommend!!

I keep this product in the car for the dogs to drink whenever they want water. It keeps a small amount of water in the bowl, the rest stays in the reservoir. Because of the weight distribution, it doesn't spill, even if they dig at it. Also handy for hiking. My large dogs have no problem with the size of the bowl.

......getting the lid to screw on and seal properly is tricky. It isn't as spill-proof as I expected but it's only water after all.
This item rates a solid 4 stars. Despite the occasional leaks I don't regret my purchase because it's reasonably priced and better than anything else on the market right now. Everyone lugging bowls and gallon jugs of water to the dog park wants to know where to buy one.

I bought this water bowl for my dog to drink whenever she goes on car trips. I also use it at the beach and lake to keep her from sticking her dirty paws in her water. It works exceptional for this purpose. She also can't knock it over like other portable bowls, which means I don't have to carry as much water as I used to. The one flaw with this water dish is that the level of the water depends on how much water is in the container. If you fill it three fourths of the way up to the fill line, the water level is too high and any jostling will make it spill. If it's only a quarter full, the water is so low that my dog can't even drink out of it and will bat it around trying to get water out of it. So there is a very small window in which this water bowl will work perfectly. Any other times, be prepared for water to spill in your car. Also, if it gets tilted at a slight angle, water will keep spilling out. My dog sometimes pushes the water dish until it gets snagged on a rock or tree and it tilts just enough to have the water continuously pour out from the opening onto the ground. She's done this a few times in the car as well. However, steep angles will not spill all the water out. Its just when the angle is slight will all the water spill out of the container. Keep this in mind if you are looking for a totally spill proof water bowl.
